If you've been slow to accumulate air miles, there's now an easier way to get a lot of them—quickly: James Asquith, who became the youngest person to travel to all 196 countries at the age of 24, announced on Instagram earlier this week that he's giving away all of his miles as part of a contest. You just have to guess how many he actually has.
Asquith, now 29, launched the competition largely to raise awareness of his Holiday Swap app, which is in 100 countries and lets people swap homes when they travel, reports Business Insider. To enter to win the miles, first follow both Asquith and Holiday Swap on Instagram. Then, comment with how many miles you think Asquith has, and tag the one person you'd bring with you on the trip. You can enter (read: comment) up to five times, and the closest person to the number of miles wins.
[post_ads]As for clues to help you land closest to the lucky number, Asquith would only say that the miles are enough to fly around the world more than three times, or that they could be used on a bunch of "first class flights." The second clue, Asquith said, is that he uses Avios, which is the rewards program for Aer Lingus, British Airways, Flybe, Iberia, Kulula, Air Italy, and Vueling. Asquith said he will announce the winner on his Instagram account on September 23. (Note: There isn't much detail on just how the winner will get Asquith's miles; transferring miles between parties usually costs a fee, and there's typically a limit on just how many miles you can transfer in a calendar year. Still, it's fun to play.)
The competition to visit every country in the world is a fierce one. In addition to Asquith (the youngest to visit every country), there's also Lee Abbamonte (the youngest American to visit every country in the world), Sal Lavallo (one of the youngest to visit every country). Currently hopping from country to country? Jessica Nabongo, who's on a mission to be the first black woman to visit every country in the world.
