A male passenger died aboard a cruise ship Friday as it was sailing between Florida and the Bahamas.
According to The Associated Press, the unidentified traveler was on Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line’s Grand Classica ship when he reportedly fell to his death. United States Coast Guard spokesman John Lally confirmed the death but would not provide the man’s name or hometown.
The 1,680-passenger vessel was en route from the Port of Palm Beach to Freeport in the Bahamas when the incident occurred Friday night. Coast Guard officials met the ship around 13 miles away from port and brought the man’s body to a local hospital.
The 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach a short time later. A passenger onboard told the Palm Beach Post he saw a man lying in a pool of blood covered in a white blanket.
Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line released a statement saying the passenger was evacuated due to a “medical emergency” and that the company’s “thoughts and prayers go out to the guest’s family at this time. We commend the crew and U.S. Coast Guard for their swift response.”
